Even though most who use it may well not go on to heavier stuff, most who use heavier stuff have used cannabis in the past ... Duncan McNair the disagreement may be profound. the insight is anything but. some further reading for duncan: pay particular attention to the hasty generalisation and post hoc fallacies. and after honing your logical skills to occam-like sharpness, why not check out some real research? apologies for my sarcasm. it's because i'm a bad person. xcx craig/japan i am not responsible. -you- Smear tactics about the Netherlands I find your mag interesting and have recommended it here in Germany to the SONICS newsgroup (on the same wavelength). However, you included a letter from somebody (Duncan) containing some completely false information about the Netherlands, which you then tacitly agreed with in your comment. The Dutch home secretary (which one?) never made any statement of the sort quoted. The writer of the letter quoted no name, no date, no place, no text. In other words it sounds like pure fantasy based on ignorance and fear (+ zenophobia probably); but by not challenging Duncan's statements you accept them on his terms. Tim J Gluckman - i hope my publishing of a letter doesn't mean i agree with it. indeed, i don't think anyone who reads the UP regularly could possibly think that! :) -you- Dear Fraser, Do you know who Duncan McNair is? He is a Lord and an active scientologist. gurugossip@yahoo.com - that sounds likely - they're normally so hysterically 'correct' except where money is concerned, and they make a lot of money 'curing' people 'on 'drugs'. i love 'guru gossip'! - u got anything on me? or on guru dave who does enlightenment intensives at the Den of E? -you- someone I know well spent 18 years trying to end his addiction to cannabis which nearly ruined his marriage and his family. Because many people are alcoholics, should we therefore ban alcohol? Because some adrenaline-junkie dies skiing, should we ban winter sports? Or should we allow the overwhelming majority who can do an activity harmlessly the right to do it, and use tax from their use to offer help to those few who have a problem? Even though most who use it may well not go on to heavier stuff, most who use heavier stuff have used cannabis in the past. Most cannabis users never use any other illegal drug; it's no 'gateway', it's more of a terminus. Look at what happened when Alaska legalised cannabis. Expenditure on crime and health problems dramatically increased and, after five or six years, a referendum changed the policy back to what it had been previously. Have you been to Alaska? Cold places have huge problems with drug abuse; look at Scandinavian alcoholism, etc. When states in the USA decriminalized in the '70s, use of cannabis did not go up. When the Netherlands decriminalised in 1976, use went *down* until 1982, and only rose in line (or less) with prohibitive countries. Young people's use of cannabis in the Netherlands is just over half that of the UK, where it is illegal. The oft-quoted success of Holland's liberal policy on cannabis ignores the disaster behind the scenes of increasing heavier drug use. This is untrue. The rate of 'hard' drug use in the Netherlands is steadily decreasing. The average age of Dutch heroin addicts is 43 and increasing. In the UK it's 27 and decreasing. Decriminalisation of cannabis has separated cannabis from the 'hard' drugs market. In addition, the Dutch Home Secretary said that their policy on drugs 'has regrettably made Holland the crime capital of the world' Has that person never been to South Africa, or the UK or the USA? On a visit to Europe, US drugs Czar Barry McCaffrey said that the Netherlands has a murder rate 8 times that of the US, and it's all because they have a gentler approach to drugs. McCaffrey later had to retract the statement when it became clear that the Dutch murder rate is less than a quarter that of the USA. Merrick x I bet that only got reported on page 7! - fraser. Any more theories on the Bilderberg conspirators???? Just a thought... if there are O-regions, does that suggest that death is a Portal to travel, unencumbered, to other worlds?????. Tell me your thoughts. PH@kickinmusic. on conspiracies I'm pretty much with bob anton wilson: the one thing we can be damn sure about is that no conspiracy has yet achieved dominance because, if it had, life would be a hell of a lot tougher for us than it is now. just about everybody I know is part of some kinda conspiracy - working in groups for a larger end is another way of defining it. a fairly natural process then. but, in the end, it's only fully conscious people who can work 'together' to reach the larger end. your comment on O-regions I wholeheartedly agree with! i suspect, though, that we already travel quite a bit in these other realms but 'forget' it in our 'conscious minds' (ie closed down to handle a limited, defined amount of input). - fraser. Way to go. I attended the last one in Palm Springs (there's a seeker born every minute) to help Bob Wilson around in his wheelchair, what a great trip! They are great events but, as a DJ, i realized the lack of appeal to my peers, yet the teachings within hold the mainline link to liberation and some understanding of our world. Yesterday i visited Berkeley to see the great Dzogchen master Chogyam Norbu. From that i gained some recommended insight about conduct of body, speech and mind. I wish everybody could see the results obtained by a little reflection and understanding of the dharma. A big group of us piled in the car and drove down from the Garden of England to go to your den to be enlightened, but after spending 45 minutes outside shivvering in the cold, and being not much closer to the door, we gave up. I am really sad about that because I have been to most of your Warp experiences and the pre-den of enlightenment party. I know this is clearly a sign of a popular event, but the security at the Imperial Gardens should pull their finger out and not spend so much time harassing fun-loving criminals at the door! Hope I can see you at another one, maybe we will have to try and get there very early. Loved the short interview in The Big Issue, I thought your comment on "sex having given you up years ago" was a direct challenge to all hot blooded women out there to sort you out, very funny! Any results yet???? Hope the party was a great success, how did the debates go?? x x x elayne ***(great ruaha)*** YOU 2368 SUN MAY 13 England has long been considered the planet's Heart Chakra. Our Heart Chakra is the Center of Love through which the Feminine Aspect of our Mother-God enters the physical plane of Earth. (Masculine Father-God Center of Power is in our Throat Chakra) England has always brought to the World the awareness of the Elemental Kingdom, and Humanity's need to revere and cooperate with nature and the Earth. Our Mother-God nurtures and sustains the Elemental Kingdom of earth, air, water and fire elements as well as the plants, animals and the entire Nature Kingdom. The Nature Kingdom in England is going through a facet of the Divine Plan designed to shock the mass consciousness of Humanity into accepting responsibility as Stewards of the Earth. A critical aspect of our Ascension process is Healing the schism between Humanity and the Elemental Kingdom. The events taking place there now are drawing the attention of the entire World and pulling on the Heart Strings of anyone who has a Reverence for Life. It is time for the Lightworkers ACT. On the day celebrated in the United States of America as Mother's Day Lightworkers from all over the World will be joining with us in consciousness And some in the physical aspect will gather on the outskirts of Glastonbury, England, for an Activity of Light. That sacred conclave will be consecrated to invoking Enlightenment and God Illumination into the situation manifesting in England and expanding a consciousness of Reverence for ALL Life to the rest of the World. This gathering will be OPEN TO THE PUBLIC and all of the Lightworkers in England who feel the Heart Call are invited to join with us and add the joy of your transcendent Light to this endeavor. The most Powerful Force on the Planet is the one-pointed, unified focus of Humanity's Attention. While hundreds of millions of people turn their attention to the Love of the Mother in the USA, we will utilize the Unified Cup, the Holy Grail, of Humanity's collective consciousness, to invoke the Love of our Mother God to Heal the schism between Humanity and the Elemental Kingdom and Awaken Humanity to the Oneness and Reverence of ALL Life. 5-8pm at the Wessex Hotel in Street, Somerset. £10 donation to help cover costs. Jansen, M.D., Ph.D. is the world's leading expert on ketamine, and his new book Ketamine, Dreams, And Realities amply demonstrates this, covering everything from pharmacology to its use in raves. Karl (an old denizen of Megatripolis etc) has studied his subject at every level: from photographing the receptors to which ketamine binds in the human brain, while earning his doctorate in clinical pharmacology at the University of Oxford, to publishing papers on his discovery of the similarities between ketamine's psychoactive effects and the near-death experience during his study of medicine in New Zealand. "A goldmine of information on this fascinating substance that combines in a unique way the properties of an anesthetic and a psychedelic." - Stan Grof, M.D. Dr. Jansen believes that ketamine can have potent healing powers when used as an adjunct to psychotherapy but warns of its addictive nature. Dr. Jansen left Oxford in 1993 to train in psychiatry at the Maudsley and Bethlem Royal Hospitals. He welcomes correspondence on the topic and can be contacted at k@btinternet.com On-line ordering can be done at http://www.maps.org/kdreams/index.html All profits from the sale of the book will be devoted to ketamine-assisted psychotherapy research.
