Within 24 hours, the book went to #1 on the Amazon best seller list. By the fifth day, it was into its 9th printing. The publisher, torn between its desire to kill the book or make a wad of money, opted for greed, and this Sunday the book enters its 31st week on the New York Times best seller list - and its 32nd printing. Remember that both the Iraqi government and the former inspector Scott Ritter maintain that the weapons inspectors were infiltrated in 1996 by CIA covert operations specialists who used the UN's special access to collect information for future “smart, accurate” bombing and to spread the billion bucks around to encourage the republican guard to launch a coup. A PROPOSAL TO THE UNITED NATIONS From A Concerned Planetary Citizenry for REGIME CHANGE IN THE United States of America WHAT THE UNITED NATIONS MUST DO Rather than adopting the suggested regime change in Iraq, the United Nations must instead consider an entirely different course of action, one that is based upon the facts alone, rather than political pressure. The primary regime which needs to be changed is the one found in Washington DC. The greatest tyrant and true threat to world peace who needs to be ousted, is George W. Bush and the gang around him. The facts which clearly show the need for such a resolution are self evident... they demonstrate a "clear and present danger" to the world community. The clique which has seized control in America clearly aspires to global domination through the use of the most expensive and high tech weapons of mass destruction the world has ever known. In demonstration of the above assertions, let us be very clear about America’s $300 billion+ annual military budget which includes: 1) Atomic and hydrogen bombs. 2) The "Star Wars" weaponry of space satellites, and laser devices. 3) A host of biological weapons including anthrax, which it has used on its own citizenry and manufactured in its own laboratories. 4) Guided missile cruisers, Stealth bombers and aircraft carriers conveying the most advanced air-based offensives ever to be used in the history of mankind. 5) Depleted uranium munitions, used repeatedly upon countries such as Yugoslavia, Afghanistan and Iraq, causing birth defects and lingering mutilation of civilian populations. 6) The use of spies, covert CIA operatives and other agents, as well as a barrage of propaganda which seeks to weaken, overthrow and exploit the sovereign nations of the world, primarily for the sake of installing pro-U.S.-corporate puppets who will do Washington's bidding. America’s staging of countless internal rebellions and coups within dozens of countries in the last five decades and always in the name of "democracy" is well documented and known. The real motive is, of course, unfair economic advantage and bottomless greed. 7) Nerve gas, tear gas, blistering agents, neurotoxins and poisonous compounds of all kinds. 8) "Smart" bombs", "Bunker Buster" bombs, "Daisy Cutter" bombs, mines and laser or satellite guided munitions. 9) Teams of special forces troops whose missions are designed for assassination, covert mass-murder and maximised destruction. The United States possesses, and has openly discussed using, such weapons of mass destruction upon those nations listed in George Bush’s so-called "axis of evil" list, as well as many others which it says, "harbour terrorists". The so-called "War on Terror" targets Libya, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Indonesia, Columbia, Nicaragua and many others. Upon these nations the U.S. has repeatedly issued a series of very aggressive and threatening statements to the effect of; "You are either with us or against us", implying dire consequences of economic, diplomatic and military measures in the event of non-compliance. The United States has openly discussed the possibility of a "first strike" use of conventional nuclear warheads, and "tactical nukes" on the battlefield. Its' military policy of, "win no matter what the cost of truth or human lives", as a surrogate for sane foreign relations, has earned the wrath of the world. U.S. belligerency has been a major contributor to international hostilities, instability, war and the creation of reactionary terrorist groups, as well as the oppression of peoples worldwide. Its irrational posture threatens to catapult the world into another, and probably final, world war. The United States has repeatedly shown its willingness to target civilian populations with weapons of mass destruction, especially via the carpet-bombing of cities and infrastructures. It is the only nation to have ever used nuclear devices in war, and upon civilian targets. Among the structures bombed have been desalinisation plants, water treatment facilities, police stations, electrical substations and generators, radar and communications stations, hospitals, highway, railway and other transportation facilities, factories for the manufacture of metal, plastic and wood products, and numerous other civilian centres. Countless examples of this behaviour have been witnessed in both Iraq and Afghanistan. The result has been millions of Iraqi and Afghan children dying of unnecessary diseases and malnutrition, due to a severe lack of food and safe drinking water. U.S. allies such as Israel, (whose military might it makes possible) have also exhibited such behaviour, as has Great Britain, through constant urging toward mindless, mutually accomplished war frenzies. The United States has, as its primary export, weaponry of mass destruction, including so-called "conventional" weapons such as guided missile cruisers, bombers, small arms, mortars, rockets, tactical advisors, self guided missiles, attack helicopters, high tech surveillance and imaging systems, tanks, explosives and various other tools design primarily for the sake of destroying human life. The United States also has a list of other exports such as multi-lingual propaganda, biological agents, tear and nerve gas, atomic weapons and their constituents, as well as technical advice regarding their construction, maintenance and use. The U.S. has frequently urged countries to use these weapons against each other so long as it benefited its political interests, while simultaneously criticising those who use them without American sanction. PERMANENT STATE OF WAR The United States has repeatedly told its own citizenry to expect involvement in what amounts to a Permanent State of War, due to the "War on Terror". A large and increasing number of foreign nationals are being held in American prisons unlawfully, often without charges, legal due process or access to legal counsel. These persons are often subjected to psychological and physical torture. Its' Afghan prisoners of war in Cuba are treated without dignity, in violation of the Geneva Convention. At the same time, the U.S. has insisted that its military personnel must be held exempt from war crimes charges by the international community, regardless of their actions. The United States repeatedly defies the resolutions and authority of the United Nations, making it clear that it views this body as merely a tool it can occasionally use to achieve its special interests. America has also made underlined, with or without the international community/United Nations, it will act on its own in whatever manner it sees fit, including pre-emptive military invasion of any country which opposes it. The international community must seriously ask itself, "Who's next?". For these and other reasons, it is proposed that: A United Nations resolution be created for the purpose of disarming and otherwise rendering harmless the major threat to world peace which The United States has become. Toward this end the necessity of ousting its current dictator, George W. Bush, and the legislative bodies of that government which currently parrot him without serious debate, is self evident. The functional means necessary to achieve this goal are hereby suggested. They include; 1) Economic sanctions and trade tariffs to undermine the U.S. economy, thereby depriving its monstrous military apparatus of the necessary life blood to function. 2) The insistence of a complete withdrawal of all U.S. military forces from wherever they may be stationed around the world, including in conquered countries (such as Afghanistan). 3) The elimination of world petroleum exports to the United States, as well as the necessary raw materials which make it's industrial-military apparatus possible. 4) The withdrawal of foreign investment in U.S. companies, and their various enterprises. This includes the cancelling of existing contracts with U.S. companies, especially those involved with the extraction of petroleum, the mining of precious metals, deforestation, sweat shop industries of clothing, plastics, electronics and other manufacture, as well as other vital resources from lands not within their territorial domain. 5) That U.S. military and civil leaders, especially George W. Bush and his entire cabinet, be brought to justice for their heinous participations in war crimes and crimes against humanity, by the international courts. World leaders must understand that no one country can both make the rules and break them, when it comes to international justice. ASSASSINATION OF BUSH OR ANY OF HIS CRONIES IS SPECIFICALLY PROHIBITED. 6) The use of joint military force, if necessary, to curb, restrict and otherwise prevent the American advance toward world domination. America must be deprived of what it most desires, which are the resources of others to fuel an extravagant lifestyle, and the support of bribed or bullied foreign leaders to accomplish a singularly selfish, unilateral agenda. Even though London has already seen a successful grassroots 'Be-In', attended by the cutting edge of the modern movement, in the form of the Reclaim the Future (RTF) Gathering last weekend, there is an important niche for a more mainstream high profile event to bring enlightened thinking to the more 'reformist' elements of the awakening human community, and create a broader radical counter culture. I salute Fraser Clark for his role in this. I hope some energy from the RTF gathering will carry over into the NHBI this Friday, carried by those who played a role in both. Unlike some in the avant garde of the (r)evolutionary counterculture I do not regard Fraser as a commercial entrepreneur selling the counterculture ready packaged for a profit, - or how about just a living? or as an unwitting CIA stooge hijacking the community and emasculating the movement, though I can understand why people may conclude this - heh heh, sounds like agent provocateurs to me, mate, some of whom are unconscious of their role. . I know he is well intentioned and truly seeks to catalyse the next stage of human evolution and social transformation. And trust the same is true of his friends. We’ve become a world of instant communicators, speed merchants and multitaskers. Greed is Speed’s first cousin. We‘ve bought into the belief that we can get rich quick without any real effort. We can't. Late at night, the GET FIT KWIK ads come on, with super-fit athletes training with the latest gadget giving the camera big, toothy smiles. I've been involved in a lot of sports, and I don't remember people smiling during training. Parents are in awe of their children today. I heard a father talk recently of how his 13-year-old son could play music, watch TV, text, and do his lessons - all at the same time! Why do parents talk about such behaviour in a 'WISH I COULD DO THAT' sort of way?! It's time for a bit of slaughter on the sacred cows which Change and innovation have become. Change can be for the worse. In the ‘90s, many economies changed into 19th Century Robber Baron Capitalist Greed-Fests. IS THAT A GOOD CHANGE!? Companies like Enron and Worldcom practiced innovative accounting. Innovation wasted over a trillion dollars in the last decade. The need to innovate is often a cover-up for shoddy products rushed to market to catch the next sucker. This present economic downturn should make us slow down and think. A Fiat Uno wing mirror and rear light casing were later found at the crash site and a couple of witnesses saw both Fiat and motorbike heading off at speed. The present Stewart heir to the British throne is HRH Prince Michael James Alexander Stewart 7th Count of Albany, who resides out of the public eye in Edinburgh, but who is nevertheless the Scottish representative of a little known organisation called the European Council of Princes. The Windsors on the other hand could be seen as usurpers. They are directly descended from the German house of Hanover, which took the throne in 1714. SECURITY & INTELLIGENCE SERVICES Originally the intelligence services’ functions were military in nature to protect the state from potentially hostile foreign powers by infiltration to discover what a potential enemy was planning and what its military capability might be. Nowadays it’s different the emphasis is to protect the establishment from elements within society seen as a threat this can be anything from socialists, environmentalists, anti war campaigners, anti nuclear protesters, anti arms trade campaigners, opponents of genetically modified crops etc.etc. in fact anyone who challenges the CORPORATE establishment i.e. the interests of big business. So today the intelligence services are 1) funded by big corporations as well as the state 2) they manipulate and undermine governments 3) they do the bidding of the military industrial complex 4) their orders ultimately come from a cabal of financial industrial and political godfathers, rather than government. Both MI5 and MI6 are unaccountable to the British parliament and the CIA likewise unaccountable to Congress in the US. The CIA is reckoned to operate a substantial "black budget" - the proceeds of drug trafficking, in which it is heavily involved in the Caribbean and Colombia, are carefully laundered and kept separate so as to avoid congressional scrutiny. It then uses these to fund its "dirty tricks" campaigns world-wide e.g. seeking to destabilise governments that act in their own peoples interests as opposed to those of the US. There is hardly a country in central and south America where the CIA has not been involved in covert operations to maintain a regime, or help impose a regime, no matter how ruthless, so long as it supports the interests of the U.S. elite. Chile, Panama, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Colombia are the best known however to date the latest efforts to support right wing elements within Peru to overthrow President Chavez have so far failed. Intelligence service sponsors include the Royal Institute for International Affairs, the Council for Foreign Relations, the European Round Table of Industrialists, the Bilderberg Group, the Trilateral Commission, World Economic Forum etc. They have their own forum too - the Pinay Circle, the membership of which reinforces the point, being made up as it is, of senior personnel from the CIA ,MI6, Mossad etc, along with military chiefs, right wing politicians, bankers and corporate bosses. INFILTRATION TACTICS AGENT PROVACATEURS In the murky world of covert operations, their trade is treachery basically terrorism using propaganda, disinformation, manipulation and murder. They have ties with all kinds of sinister extremist groups, which are infiltrated as a matter of course, ostensibly to keep tabs on their activities, but it is apparent that the infiltrators are often there to work with extremists and act as "agent provocateurs". Agent provocateurs have clearly played a role in the violence seen recently in anti capitalist demonstrations in London, Gothenburg, Genoa, Barcelona etc, - in Gothenburg and Genoa there were eye witness accounts of violent "protesters" producing their ID cards to police and then being given safe passage behind police lines (Ref: Positive News Autumn 2001 www.positivenews.co.uk ). The purpose is clear the media always focuses on the violent minority on these occasions so the instigation and encouragement of violence by agent provocateurs helps to bring the wider protest movement into disrepute. This is a world of subversion, where state agencies, media sharks, anarchists and the political fringe overlap. There are journalists and media workers who are deep cover intelligence service operatives whose prime task is to get misleading stories and disinformation into the newspapers and on radio and television.. FINAL OBSERVATIONS All this might sound pretty frightening after all it can be very difficult for ordinary folk to understand how it is that people at the top will bring about wars and utilise terror even against their own people, but the stakes are incredibly high. For example corporate interests fear loss of business, loss of profits, loss of markets and will do whatever it takes to hang onto these. I was honored to participate in the London New Human Be-In on September 27, 2002. The event was held at one of the city's premier venues, Ocean, a multi-room club with state-of-the-art sound and video systems. Shamanic producer Fraser Clark, whose previous Megatripolis and Warp Experience events are well-loved milestones of personal and social transformation in the UK, was the driving force behind this magical Be-In. His team brought together a heady mix of presenters, entertainment, exhibits and music that combined to raise the vibration and awareness to New Human dimensions! Truly a 21st century landmark event that will surely lead to many other events, projects and connectionsŠ The SF-London Connect One of Fraser's main missions with the Be-In was to "activate the San Francisco-London ley line" - and in this he was definitely successful. Allen Cohen, publisher of the historic San Francisco Oracle newspaper, and Chet Helms of Family Dog and Avalon Ballroom fame, two of the primary instigators of the original January 14, 1967 Human Be-In, flew in with their offerings of valuable wisdom and perspective - on the Be-In history, the current war-mongering, and the forward-thinking, love-driven evolution we are all working for. There were several other San Francisco bright lights in attendance, notably '60s lightshow artist Hal "Rainbow Puddle" Phoenix, rock photographers Robert Altman and Gene Anthony, videographer Peter Booth Lee, writer Carla King, internetworker and Digital Be-In MC David Traub, musician Brooks Blanchard, computer artist Warren Stringer, entrepreneurs Phil Chang, Steven Marksohn, Rowan Gabrielle, Woody Harrelson and others. Unfortunately, Patrick Flanagan and Stephanie Sutton (of sponsor Flantech), were unable to make the event, but we hope they will be involved in a future London Be-In. In general, the interaction between our SF posse and the London circles was seamless; the similarities and overlaps between our two cultures all too evident. One of the most interesting connections for me was London’s psychedelic trance scene, which has already opened the SF/London ley line since the mid-90s with DJs and producers crossing the big waters on a regular basis. But the connection between the psy-trance circles and the hippie tradition, which we have celebrated at our Be-Ins in SF, is much more advanced in London. This was also illustrated at an event the week prior to the Be-In celebrating the 30th anniversary of Portobello Road's Alchemy head shop (http://www.leeharris.co.uk) and the release of a new CD produced by Alchemy founder Lee Harris featuring Celtic, ambient, jazz and spoken work pieces - and psytrance tracks by such stellar talents as Youth, Shpongle, Process and others A Multi-Dimensional YOUniversity-in-a-Club The New Human Be-In began with a magical blessing ceremony in the square of the Hackney City Hall across from the venue led by Raga, John Crow, Steve Pank and Don Pecker, with a prayer for peace and sanity in the U.S., and statements from several of those gathered including Chet Helms, Allen Cohen and myself, similar in format to our Digital Be-Ins in San Francisco, the early part of the evening featured speakers and brief musical performances, followed later by live music and DJs. There were impressive decorations and video artistry. Besides the main room, there was also a healing/massage area, a Shamanic Poets Corner, many exhibits, and two other large rooms, the "Human Trance Inn" produced by psy-trance collective Antiworld, and the YOUman Room, organized by Youth (well-loved producer, founder of Dragonfly Records, Killing Joke bass player, mystic), showcasing such creative lights as Jambience, Davey Graham, Solar, Guru Madness, Soname and others. (I had the pleasure of engaging in an impromptu rap while Youth deejayed in the late morning.) Both of these hyperspaces were very well produced - kudos to all involved! The speakers included Member of the European Parliament Dr. Caroline Lucas addressing citizen globalization vs. corporate world domination, eco-activist marchioness Tracy Worcester and former Jain monk Satish Kumar, the distinguished Director of Programmes at Schumacher College and founder of the London School of Non-Violence. After the individual presentations, GoodJeff Laster convened the "BE-COME-IN" roundtable discussion with all the speakers, and an Alternative FYOUture Powwow including Chet Helms, Allen Cohen and others reviewing the Be-In lineage of ideas and actions, and new possibilities for forward movement. Be-In Digital: Technology and New Humans My presentation focused on "Technology and Human Evolution" where I noted that cyberspace and other advanced communication tools are (potentially) the transmitters of the new "cultural DNA," memes of personal and social transformation that can lead us toward the development of a new, sustainable civilization with its collective feet firmly on the ground and its collective head (the noosphere) networked with the living cosmos. I reviewed the history of the Digital Be-In, its role in highlighting the vital connections between psychedelic culture and the digital revolution, and promoting creative and humanistic applications of technology - through a balance of "art, technology and spirit." We have come through the delusional dot-com era and the original visionaries and inventors are still at work. The digital media tools and the Internet are in place. Buckminster Fuller would be proud of us. Email and websites are finally economically viable - for just about everyone. Now we have to use these resources for true change on a global scale, communicating and educating ourselves and changing our institutions. I conveyed my enthusiasm for the intelligence and literary sophistication of British society, and how this can translate into a deep understanding of "the word" - or the code - and the power which words have to inspire change. Not only do we need to use the digital resources for education and communication, we also need to rewrite the rules of our global civilization. Human rights, international trade laws, zoning laws, specifications for sustainable industries are all examples of key codes that need to be understood and further evolved. We must re-program our human reality! But how can we impact the massive institutions we have set in motion? Here are a few examples: 1) ACTIVISM - use the net to get the word out, reach politicians, organize events and initiatives. Recent net-activism efforts include the MoveOn political initiative network (http://www.moveon.org), the Marijuana Policy Project (http://www.mpp.org) and many others. 2) CONSUMER PROTEST- strategic international boycotting of specific products and services that violate human rights and sustainable development guidelines. The work of Global Exchange.org (http://www.GlobalExchange.org) is noteworthy here. 3) ALTERNATIVE MEDIA wean ourselves and others off of television, and commercial media in general. Use and create alternative news sources. IndyMedia is a leading alternative network model (http://www.indymedia.org) and Adbusters a powerful info resource (http://www.adbusters.org). 4) NEW CURRENCIES - we can create alternative economic channels with new currencies. Note the work of complementary currencies developed for small countries, airline mileage point systems, the EBay phenomenon and other new systems of trade and barter that are emerging. There is no question that the planetary citizenry must take control of the CODE of our civilization. It’s not up to government sub-committees and corporate boardrooms to make the decisions that affect our evolution as a species. We know that human rights ought to overrule corporate rights. We must broaden the dialogue on the applications of new technologies and social systems, create new forms of consensus and expert influence. We must free ourselves of the shackles of commercial media, the advertising-driven "matrix" which programs us from birth to be passive consumers and to accept this constrained human condition. As a species evolving, we must use our genius and intention to change and grow, to move ideas into action. We must WAKE UP! We talk about ourselves as if we are different from mainstream culture. And we are. But are we a "counter culture"? I think this mainstream vs. counter promotes a simplistic polarization of society, and the the book "The Cultural Creatives" by demographer Paul Ray and Sherry Anderson has been very useful in understanding who we are. (http://www.culturalcreatives.org/faq.html) Cultural Creatives / New Humans Fraser Clark defines New Humans thusly: HUMAN: retarded ape defined mainly by using only 10% of its brainpower, or repressing or sublimating most of it. On the verge of self-extinction, while threatening to pull the New Human down with it. NEW HUMAN: human who continues to evolve beyond the base form due to hybrid vigor (genetic and cultural), inner exploration, and direct applications of available tools. The long-term key to evolutionary change is community. We need to redefine our communities and create new social and physical models. From small co-housing projects on one extreme to large-scale eco-city developments on the other, these communities can be testing grounds for the new values and lifestyles of the cultural creatives. Major festivals like Burning Man (http://www.burningman.com) in the U.S., and Glastonbury in the U.K., are incubators of this new culture. There are many sustainable community projects to learn from such as the Arcosanti eco-city project in Arizona (http://www.arcosanti.org) and the Damanhur community in Northern Italy (http://www.damanhur.org). New social models can be combined with sustainable development strategies in the development of a network of new communities that will be the nodes of a new civilization, ready to take the strain as the Old One fails. The Global Eco-village network (http://www.gaia.org) and the Green Century Institute (http://www.greencenturyinstitute.org) are two resources for information on new communities and related subjects. Be-In Peace, Be-Inclusive The Be-In concept is a celebration of our inner dimension, while at the same time an acknowledgement that humans are social beings who thrive in tribes and must take responsibility for their environment and planet. Our New Human Be-Ins, while illustrating the differences between the dominant modern culture and the formative "integral culture" of the cultural creatives, are fundamentally more inclusive than exclusive. Timothy Leary, who first said "Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out" at the 1967 Human Be-In, made a point about inclusivity when addressing the Tokyo Digital Be-In in 1995. He recounted an exchange he had with some young Japanese in the early '90s. They told him they were committed to a revolution, that they wanted a more enlightened society, but that they did not want to accomplish it with conflict and violence such as we experienced in the 1960s. They wanted a revolution, but they wanted to "bring their parents with them." Timothy also updated his famous mantra for the Tokyo Be-In, by declaring: "Japan is going to teach us how to TURN ON, INTERTUNE IN and SHINE OUT!" Michael Bowen, the painter/mystic who helped to catalyze the original Human Be-In, addressed the crowd of 20,000 by first invoking a prayer to the sun, then saying: "I would say this to all the members of the Establishment: we are happy and proud to have you in our brave new world." POSTSCRIPT: Drugs and Community Responsibility The New Human Be-In, with a mission to help prevent war and foster the birth of new evolutionary directions for humankind, also became the setting for the end of a young life. Around 2am a man who’d come to the event with a posse of friends to celebrate his 19th birthday, fell off (or jumped from) a balcony and suffered serious back and head injuries. He died 60 hours later. I know that everyone involved with the New Human Be-In was deeply touched by this tragedy, and our hearts go out to his family and loved ones. Hopefully this sad and shocking event will be a lesson for the entire community. Of course, we are all frustrated with the disconnect between drug laws, commercial drug culture (from nicotine to Prozac), illegal drugs and our well-being. The "War on Drugs" has created incredible pathologies in our global culture, and the frightening reality of politics, crime and illegal drug distribution is a story we would just as soon avoid. The use of marijuana, empathogens and psychedelics for personal growth, communal celebration and spiritual work is contradicted by laws, propaganda and social values that demonize users and the cultural circles they belong to. Shame and confusion abounds, and clear-headed understanding of our psychological and biological conditions and the affect of certain drugs is sorely lacking. The legal machinery, prison system and political power centers that profit from illegal drugs do not want us to understand the drugs. Educational efforts such as Dance Safe (http://www.dancesafe.org) are far too rare. Given this climate of enforced ignorance, it is up to us to educate each other, be responsible to ourselves and our friends. We know Life is sacred, and that includes each one of us. UP!
